Fishing : The river
Sioule at the top !
The
department of Allier is really the heaven of the fishermen and this is
particularly right for the Sioule and its fly-fishermen.
For the
enthusiasts of this competitive fishing which needs waders, rod and
reel, silk thread and imitation flies, the section of
Châteauneuf-les-Bains (63) - Ébreuil*
is one of the most attractive in France.
Large, wild, located in a wonderful stony and woody surroundings (the
famous Gorges of the Sioule), this part of the river is abounding in
fish (particularly trout fario), grayling and in a near future, it will
be possible to strike also salmon. (a very important project has been
committed in 1995). The persons taking part of the traditional event
organized in this area, beginning june, by the Groupement des Pêcheurs
Sportifs
Sioule and
Bouble (GPSSB) are not mistaken about this event : every year, they are
about 50 fly-fishermen coming from whole of France to reel. Better :
this setting welcomes every year the Championnats de France, 1st
or 2nd division (our photo : world champion Pascal Coignard
in 1998). For the novices, this society proposes free initiation and
demonstration (kit included), every thursday and friday evening, whole
of the year in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule (île de la Ronde). "Once some
rudimentary notions learnt and with people’s agreement, we go and fish
with them, says Michel Boyer, President of GPSSB and of Comité regional
des pêcheurs à la mouche et au lancer. |
*In
this section of the Sioule is classified « first class » that means the
possibility to fish salmons : at Jenzat, the river comes “2nd
class” (white fish only).
