SAINT-
POURÇAIN,
YESTERDAY AND NOWADAYS
Since the period of the
first wine stocks planted by the Gallo-Romains (between the IIIrd and
the IVth century), the wineyard of Saint Pourçain expanded itself to
cover 600 hectares.
To protect this history and
not only this one of the technical wine-harvest, the Conservatorium of
the vine (located in the castle of Chareil Cintrat) has planted since
1995, 2 hectares of old type of vine (like Saint Pierre “doré” for the
white or Portugais “bleu” for the red wines) which are no more used in
line-up of the actual wines. Another memory of wine : Le Musée de la
Vigne et du Terroir, located in the former house of the bailiff (XVIth
century) in Saint Pourçain sur Sioule.
Nowadays, the wines (classified in VDQS - wines of superior quality)
since 1951 share out among rosé and red, out of Gamay and Pinot black
and white, type of vine, union between Chardonnay, Sauvignon and
Tressallier, (this last one is an exclusivity of Saint Pourçain) .A
third of its production of the wineyard is fulfiled by about 20
private cellars spread out on the territory. Union of Vignerons, is
approaching for an A.O.C. (Appellaion of Controlled Origin, products
the rest and every year in december, between others vintages releases
« La Ficelle » a new wine, well-known until the bars in Paris .
Information : Union des vignerons (04.70.45.42.82) and private cellars
(04.70.45.26.66) for visits |
